The Monhegan Cardboard Regatta has been a wonderful way to bring the island community together and raise funds for MISCA.
We are excited for the 2026 Cardboard Regatta, which will be held on Thursday, August 6th!
In the months leading up to the regatta, a t-shirt with original artwork by an island artist is sold to raise money for MISCA. The 2025 artwork by Donna Cundy is pictured here.
Regatta participants create boats only using cardboard, duct tape and paint, then must paddle from Swim Beach to Fish Beach.

Often both beaches, as well as the rocks between the two beaches, are overflowing with spectators.
There are prizes for most creative, first to arrive to Fish Beach, and the Titanic Award, donated by island residents and businesses.

The Monhegan Cardboard Regatta was first organized in 2013, by Rusty Spear with Nancy Vogt helping with food preparation. They raised money for MISCA and Lisa Brackett to re-open the island general store.

Following that first year, there was a pause until island resident, Margaret Chioffi, started organizing it to benefit MISCA. She successfully ran it in the summers of 2021 to 2023.

Margaret went on to college so there was a pause for one year until island residents Melanie, Stew, Milo and Liliana Way took up the reins in 2025.
